Hey guys,

I'm planning on setting up a designated breeding tank for a pair of Banggai Cardinals so that the male can release the fry in that.tank versus moving him while holding.

Would it be advisable to have a cleanup crew in the tank also? Snails and or shrimp I was thinking but wasn't sure if the cardinal pair would harass the shrimp or not.

Thanks,

Shrimp may be an issue but snails should be fine as eggs end up in mouth of the male and not the glass. Place one or two fake urchins in the tank also for the babies to hide in

Hermit crabs and strawberry conchs are ok. How big of a tank ? Reason I ask is , if tank really Large then trying to keep food close to the fry maybe difficult . Large tank means BBS May disperse rather quickly and cause the fry to go far out of the way to chase down food. They need to store as much as they can so they don’t run out between feedings . Other thing to consider , your male needs rest and time to build up reserves for the next month of not eating . The female has been eating and may already be ready for the next go round . The only way to stop this is to use a divider . So he can recover .

I was thinking the shrimp would eat them, so glad the more experienced reefers chimed in. Will you make another post to document your breeding progress? I'd love to follow it. I think Banggai's are super neat!
