While I love seeing all the latest fancy equipment in reefers' meticulously-maintained tank, I've decided that I'm not going to go that route. Who's maintaining a reef with just the bare minimum of heater, pump, and light? My barest builds are certainly my jars -- they each just have an airstone, heater, and a light source. I don't have much more than that for my "big" tanks, though: I have such a small bioload in my RSM250 that I've emptied the skimmer's cup once since I bought it two months ago. I do have a mesh top on my IM40, and evaporation is a bit of a pain, so I'll probably set up my Tunze ATO next weekend, but my other tanks need to be topped up, at most, once per week.

Nothing with with that! I started my reef with just a canister filter, heater, and a couple of undersized powerheads!

My fowlr tank is still running like that, minus the canister filter

Of course I've added equipment piece by piece to my reef over the years
