So I was just lying under my tank looking up at a completely open bare bottom tank. Tank is 48"x24". My original idea does utilize some light getting thru to sump to show off a painted design on the front of it but that is going to be a lot of light even once I get my rock structures in.

What have others done under the bare bottom? I don't want to totally diffuse light and I like the fact of being able to see up under but I think I need to diffuse it a bit. Any ideas? Or things folks have done.

What do folks do under the tank to show thru as the bottom? Heard painting it white or black? Anything else?

My stand on my display has a wood top. My frag tank I built and didn't add the top. I didn't like the light coming through so I put a couple cardboard panels between the bottom of the tank and the stand. I can pull them out real quick if I needed to.

I picked up some tumbled marble tiles from Lowes for growing out frags on. After placing them in the tank I thought they would make a nice bare bottom substrate.

These are cut in half already. They are about dollar bill sized to begin with.
