One of my candy cane corals is starting to die, and what I thought was coralin algae started growing on the base at about the same time, but when I look close it looks like it has little mouthes or openings all over it, like little barnicles or something ! Can anyone tell me what this is, and why its killing my candy cane?

whatever it was a 30 minute iodine dip killed it completly. So it wasnt coraline. wouldent think sponge would die from iodine tho. It turned grey within 12 hours of putting it back in the tank ... now there is just the grey reminants of it left, several days later. candy cane seems to be doing better but its too early to tell I guess.
