Bartlett or dispar anthias?

im going to get some anthias. What is easier to care for and which are better looking the bartletts or the dispar?

Don't know much about disbar but I have some bartletts which I really love. They can be a little aggressive towards one another at times but I've had good luck keeping a pair for quite a while now (maybe 7 months or so). I originally had a trio but the other two picked off the third early on. They seem to be very happy now as a couple and are really beautiful fish with lots of energy. Oh and TSM Corals has some pre-quarantined bartletts available if that makes a difference.

Bartletts seem to all turn male, you're usually lucky if left w/ a pair out of a group.

Dispar are more peaceful, but a little more sensitive compared to bartletts, but they would be my choice

A single bartlett is easier. They are very hard to keep multiples of because in most cases they all turn male and kill each other. I keep a single bartlett with other anthias.

Dispars once through quaratine are not to bad but less hardy than bartletts. They are also more finicky eaters. Dispars and ignitus are very similiar in behavior and looks. They are sometimes confused. They shoal more than most other anthias. They prefer very small food and can be a little tricky to get on dry food but it is very possible. They get along very well and no agression like bartletts or lyretails.

Well i went with dispar anthias. I really want something i can have a group of. Any advice for food if they're finicky? I have live brine, cyclopese, and oyster feast, On top of LRS Anything else that will work?

A better choice of fish IMO. I tried a trio of both in different tanks and the Bartlett were very aggressive and ended up with one male that now chases the chromis all day. From my Dispar group, I ended up with only one making through QT. This is a much less aggressive fish. Both fish now eat any food I put in the tank.

Every time I get anthia I get more than what I think I want, seems you almost always lose some in qt process, some just don't eat.
Once in a blue moon I get lucky and all survive.

Those foods you listed are good for very finicky, I just prefer to try to start simple so they don't get spoiled for live brine or foods that can be a pain to feed multiple dailys.

I start w/ just mysis, normally if they are ok they will eat that.

Carberryi's are another good group anthia that are not too difficult, and I've had a good mix of dispar, carbs, and lyretails that all got along fine

Pros and cons. Bartlett are bigger, need more space, will usually turn male and are are prone to serious bickering. If you have adequate space, and feed frequently, you can keep a group. If you are only feeding once a day, you’ll end up with a single individual. But, they are easy to feed and much more colorful. Dispar are much less aggressive, will coexist in a smaller tank; though more sensitive and less colorful.

Those are all good.. I also like Nutramar ova, Larrys fish eggs and PE calanus.
Pretty much any frozen that is small works.

Getting them to eat frozen aint bad but dry is harder..

My hardest part is getting them through the first few days but after that they are pretty good.

They also do better with more feedings. Bartletts and lyretails seem ok with the typical feedings but most other anthias do better with a couple extra feedings.

Not in qt yet, but paid for. Ill post a pic when they get delivered tuesday.

Been wondering the same. Online retailers have said backordered for so long. Then the backorder date hits, and it's "backordered" for another two months.

Hmm I know it was gone for a long time and then it was back.. You know the last time I was at my lfs I do not remember seeing any but I was not looking for it. I know they had some the time before because I almost bought some.
I just looked online and none. I hope this is not gone again, maybe I should see if my lfs has some and hold it for me. This is one of the best foods too..

Ova was unavailable for a few years, then it was back in late 2016 .... or thereabouts. Now it’s been unavailable for at least a year. I bought a bunch, but probably not enough.

So I kinda forgot about this thread.... I ended up getting 6 dispar anthias from live aquaria. I've had them for 9 days so far. It took 3 days to get the majority eating live brine and cyclopese. They are on day 6 of copper and now all 6 are eating frozen. Every day they are more active. Headed to display soon at this rate!

So not good results. They made it 10-11 days in copper. The past 2 days I've lost 4 to bacterial infections. I feel I'm fully responsible. These sensitive fish may require more frequent water changes in qt
