Hey folks,
Starting the process of a basement in wall build. It's a standard 180 gallon that will be sitting a few inches in front of a steel I beam. (Beam not directly over tank). I was looking to coat/paint the beam for rust protection. What do you all recommend? Do you recommend painting exposed floor joists and sub flooring over tank as well? If so recommendations please. Any and all input appreciated.
Thanks.
Rob

Painting is fine. Use the dry fall paint and spray if you can. Dry fall hits the ground dry for easy clean up. You use regular and it will get swirled around the house. Been there done that. Still have overspray to prove it.

Beam will require a good primer first.

Red Sea uses an epoxy coating on their stands. So, I think Home Depot or Lowes has an epoxy type paint that I would recommend using as it would protect the beam really well.

Thanks for the replies. It just occurred to me that this might be a Por-15 job. It's been a while since I've used it but it worked very well when I used it on auto parts.

I never heard of dry fall paint....interesting. Is it durable? (Just for steel or for wood joist/floor as well?)

As for the epoxy, that was my first thought.

Thoughts for painting joists/sub floor?

Thanks.

To be safe, I would seal the joists and sub flooring ( pine ?), if you think they will be exposed to any moisture. Easier to do it now than later.
