Berghia cultivation questions

I'm cultivating 3 x 16oz of these with aiptasia from DT...TEMP in room is 68 to 76f. Each container has 2-3 berghia.

Do berghia crawl outside the containers and roam and die?

I put holes in the lids, is this enough for
Oxygenation?

Can pods eat their eggs? I don't have eggs yet.

Following as Id love to know as well. I have my share of aiptasia, and no one sells berghia locally. That's probably common in most places though lol.

As for the oxygenation I personally think that would be too stagnant of water without an airstone or any type of flow, they don’t need much, but still some for proper oxygenation.

Depends what kind of pods, amphiods will absolutely decimate any egg population, copepods are fine though in my experience.

Aggregating the aiptasia makes them spread quicker so you should invest in a separate aiptasia only tank to avoid spreading in the display.

Yup! I have a 20gal setup for only aiptasia. At times I will have to supplement it with ordering extra aiptasia online but for the most part it’s self efficient at this point.

Awesome .. Do you have any skimmer or filters? I guess feeding pellet is good for aiptasia?

As above-no Berghia won't crawl out.

You can manually stir the container water 3-4 times a day and berghia/aiptasia will survive. However if you put rock from your tank in those containers, it may foul the water without more circulation. Consider a tiny air pump with a slow stream of bubbles-less work and more reliable.

Those temps are fine for Berghia.

Usual tank copepods seem to be fine. I was never able to maintain amphipods in my system so I don't know how much of a problem they are for Berghia eggs.

You could snip the tops off aiptasia from your display to feed your berghia (but you will soon get tired of this). There is no reason to chop them up before feeding.

If you are trying to do this long term, you need A LOT of aiptasia. More than you think. Heavy feeding is the key to rapid aiptasia growth, but be careful not to overdo it and foul the water.

When the berghia eggs hatch, you need to have small aiptasia available for the larvae to eat. Adults do not directly harm the larvae, but the adults are faster/smarter/have bigger mouths and will outcompete the larvae for food in small containers unless you are constantly replenishing with small aiptasia.

Suggest add an airstone at very very low speed. No they don’t crawl out. Good luck to you!

I use a turkey baster....
My fear now is how to suck gunk from this container and replace with DT water, without sucking out larvae and eggs since they're so tiny? Any tips?

The biggest two issues to be concerned about is (1) keeping the Berghia out of the Aiptasia tank and (2) keep pods out of the Berghia tank. Most other mistakes (or system design issues) you can learn over time as you dial in the process that works for you. Good luck!
