Bergius Nudibranch Help!

I seemed to be cursed with Berghia. I have gone through about 10 and have a major aphasia issue in my display. I have tried peppermint and they didn't touch, I have an aphasia eating file fish that eats anything but aptasia. I have recently cleaned off 2 small rocks with heaps of aphasia on and put in a netted breeding box. For about a week they seemed to be growing and doing well, laying eggs but now nothing, haven't seen in about 5 days and aphasia not reducing at all. The aphasia in my display arena vast and large so impossible to manually remove off the rock. Any help on how to remove aphasia or what's happening with my Nudis would be great.

Shrimps and hermits, as well as maybe certain fish might eat small Nudibranchs so if they are not perfectly isolated from the rest of the tank they probably got eaten. Some (Ex)aiptasia spp. do fine without light so it's possible the Berghia are currently dealing with polyps inside the rock and are simply staying hidden.

Maybe there is another issue but these are the things that come to mind first

10 will not clear out your problem. The offspring from their eggs will. Do some research on how these work at addressing the issue, there are plenty of articles on R2R about it. They are a ~3 month process.

I agree that nudi's are a long process, you won't see results right away.

I would suggest to buy the peppermint shrimp from an actual breeder rather than from an lfs. There are many false peppermints and the differences are so small that regular folks might not notice the difference.

Thanks for the advice, there’s no shrimp or hermit in with the nudis , fingers crossed they’re just in the rock somewhere.

It takes 11 days for an egg spiral to hatch. But sometimes upon hatching, they enter a free swimming stage. If that happens, you will have another two weeks of not seeing anything. Then they will just start popping up.

Your original post says they laid eggs… they hatch small, you wont be able to find them. Takes a few weeks for them to grow to a size where you will notice them. This is not an over night solution. Dont add any livestock that will eat them (going on memory but i think ive read on R2R that peppermint shrimp will eat the nudis).

just b/c you cant see the adults doesnt mean they arent there. read other posts on this topic and you will find your observations are not unique to you. this path needs time to work.

How big is your tank? I had a similar problem with aiptasia I added 3 nudis to my 50 gallon, in a month I started to see them disappear, after the second month I had more nudis then aiptasia.

If they’re deep in the rock I’d avoid trying to scrape them out, since you can end up spreading them even more. I’d probably treat the ones you can reach individually and give the peppermint shrimp/filefish some more time. Also make sure they’re actually true peppermint shrimp, because some similar looking shrimp won’t touch aiptasia. For a really bad infestation, Berghia nudibranchs might be worth looking into.
