i personally like the ushio 14k because its a crisp white with a hint of blue, looks more like a 10k to me if youre looking for a crisp white
but the old school in me is going to say ushio 10k

really? bad things? interesting, i really havent been in the bulb world for a while so i havent really been researching but ushio was the **** 10 years ago lol
that may have been because they were probably the only brand back then but thats all people used to use
either that or they were good with mogul only
dont do current 10k, they suck
i have 4 t5 actinics and 2x150w 10ks and its still yellowish

phil, i recommend 10k halides to grow things. though it will be ultra ugly.

IMO 20ks and actinics are best for looks. they make colors stand out amazing.

to compromise, anything in the 12k-15k range with actinics would look nice.

hmmm, why not swap the 10ks from your 55, and put new 14ks over your 55. and then use the 10ks u took out and put them over the 29?

IMO grab yourself a workhorse ballast, and hook up some t5s with SLRs. that would be cheapest, and its still quality light.

when u come to my place... u can see how i built my lights. mine arent canopy either. and it cost me about half of what the light over your tank would cost. and since u probably want to save money (due to the new house) i recommend custom built over factory built.
