I am looking for the best heater to use in a 160 total gallon controlled by an apex. Will one work or do i need 2? I live in South Florida and keep the house at 74-76 year round.

I have an Eheim 300 watt. Price is good and reliability high. Apex is my safe guard. It's a very long heater. New train of thought is running two heaters for safety, but I'm good with the heater's thermostat backed by the Apex.

Depends on your lowest ambient temperature and tank design. I run an Eheim 400W in my 130g (RSR 525XL) as anything smaller won’t maintain temperature during the coldest of our winter nights here in Sydney. In Florida you won’t get that low I expect so a smaller heater would be sufficient for you.

I run a second heater as a backup in case the primary fails, set to turn on just below the primary. The primary is Apex controlled, the secondary is controlled by it’s internal thermostat to guard for the Apex failing.
