So I went to one of the LFS near me. They had this favia. I picked it. The guy then tells me he was about to frag it because he gets $40 a head. I said "was about to" he didnt get $40 a head but I think I came out better. Even had a couple of aiptasia for free that the peppermint shrimp cleared last night.

How did i do?

I'm far from an expert so I may be totally wrong but that looks like one of my blastos. Nice looking piece regardless

Yeah that is a blasto. Considering they didn't know the ID of a relatively easy coral to ID, "about to frag it and I can get $40 per head" sounds like PR to get you feel good about the purchase. It is a beautiful piece regardless.

In a colony, polyps push against each other and they look like this. To be more specific, it is Blastomussa wellsi.

I must be getting way to old for this hobby, I’m still from the time were we could by the hole colony for 40$

You did well for $40 on the blasto, he may get $40 for 2 fat heads, but doubt that for a single.

Sorry, I reread my post and was not clear. $20/head would seem about right and it looks like about 20 heads so I’d say you came out ok.
