Tropic Marin Pro

Tropic Marin Pro

IO and Reef Crystals have INSANELY High Alkalinity Levels.

It is Impossible for me to Keep Alkalinity Stable with those Salts.

So I Switched to Tropic Marin Pro (What most Reefers in Europe Use).

The Alkalinity is Spot on for me at around 8.5

Reef Cystals is around 14!

Didn't know it but I am even Happier that somebody in the Thread Mentioned it has the Lowest Lithium of any Salt out there :)
Can anyone verify that reef crystal is around 14 alkalinity? That's scary!

Is it not, has not ever tested that high for me.

Tropic Marine Pro, seems enticing. 100$ vs $40 however means IO can be adjusted slightly/easily if either ALK/Cal/Mag is slightly off. However I've never seen it been 14 nor other parameters that required adjusting for me anywayz.

That's what thought, as I tested my water a few days after first filling up my tank and my alk checked 7.9

As soon as I switched to Red Sea Pro salt my clowns started laying eggs and my coral looks good
The proof is in the pudding

What did you switch from? How old were the clowns?

Fish laying eggs, proof for a Reef Salt. I'm sure it's a great salt but I'm having trouble connecting those two.

I used reef crystals and instant ocean for 5 years, currently I am on my third bucket of Red Sea coral pro. My Sps always seem to be much more extended and happier after doing water changes with rscp in conparisson to io or rc. This is ancedotal but I would recommend people who are contimplating switching to give it a shot and if they don't see results after a bucket then go back. It seems for beginners instant ocean is absolutely fine and once one reaches a stable tank experimenting with different salts may or may not impact the tank.

I think with respect to salts consistency is a more important issue than who's got the best ratios.

My clowns spawned as soon as I made the switch with a big water change......The timing seemed odd
Just stating my personal experience. No need to try and call me out

Not calling you out, just providing the counterpoint. :)

If you don't dose then its hard to keep KH and Calcium up. Especially KH. I tend to water change every 2 weeks so in between I dose. I used to use Brightwell aquatics A and B 2 part. For the last 2 weeks I started using Red Sea A, B and C foundation. I use Red Sea Pro salt, but only because my LFS mixed that. I am looking for what might be better alternatives.
