Best way to remove from rock?

This guy has grown horizontally up the rock. He looks like he is about to split. So for future reference what the best way to separate home from the rock on its side? Xacto knife was what I was thinking. Thanks in advance

With it being a leather you should be able to just rip him off the rock. If you want a cleaner cut use an X-acto.
