Hey guys had some issues with my quarantine system over the last week. I will post both of the video so you know all the details but to sum it up I had parasites jumping between sections via the bubbles from my sponge filters. I lost three tangs in two days and was forced to start quarantine over for everyone else. Hopefully someone can learn from my mistakes if you have any questions feel free to ask.

I'm sorry for your losses. :-(

I was under the impression that studies have shown that ick, at least, can be carried via aerosol transmission up to 10 feet. Any idea if that is true of other parasites as well?

Looks like the lids will solve that (I love the bowing on them to direct the drips down); are you worried about any loss of oxygen transfer? You've got the air pumping in, so I wouldn't think so, but that was one of my main concerns with fully-covered QT tanks.

Thank you. I'm sure the air pump will take care of any issues regarding oxygen. But I will keep a close eye on everything just incase. Atm everything is working and the remaining fish look fine. Guess it was just one of those things I had to learn the hard way and hopefully this thread will save a fish or two lol.

Been there - done that. Several times... **sigh**

I think your videos have - and will continue to - educate and inform, for sure. Some people can learn from reading, others from watching, and most from doing. The forums have the first covered, videos like yours cover the second, and we all go through the third if the other two don't work (and sometimes, even when they do). In other words; keep 'em up - they are a service and a boon!

This study found that velvet dinospores (free swimmers) could travel in aerosol droplets up to 3 meters (or 9.84 feet) with dynamic systems or even 440 mm (almost 18 inches) in a static system: http://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/pii/S0044848606001785

Well, any aquarium with flow/bubbles breaking the surface can be considered "dynamic." Ich theronts, worm eggs and harmful bacterium can all be "free floating", so it is logical to conclude that these are transmissible via aerosol as well.

Learn something new every day. Thought I was losing my mind but it's the only thing that fit the situation.

I currently use a three section quarantine system that i didnt keep lids on and come to find out ick was being passed between each section video the bubbles popping at the top of the water. I made acrylic covers with a bend to allow the water to drip back into its section.
