Cause I don't get it..

I have before but i bid the minimum only of what it they are asking for that way its always on my screen but i only bid that one time until it is the last few min before the auction ends, don't know if that helps, but the only reason i do is i have had it happen where i am not going to bid until the last 5 min and then when i do remember it just ended and no one bid on it and I i would have won if I would have bid the min amount, so I at least put that minimum in if it is something that I want to get.

If you're sure you want the item I'd just bid whatever max amount you'd spend on it. I've found out that trying to bid last minute to "snag" it at a lower cost doesn't really work. There are a good amount of people that will bid last minute but no matter when they bid if they put a lower max bid than you, you still win. They just see 1 bid and have no idea if you bid $1 or $100.

True. Your points make sense. It confuses me sometimes seeing a bidding war happen with 3 days left.

Bid the maximum you're willing to spend, on your first bid, and let the automatic process take it from there. Bid on it and then forget it. This will eliminate the emotional bidding war that it's easy to get caught up in.

I still don't trust Ebay. But I will bid every now and then. I think there's some shill bidding going on, when people have a bidding war 3 to 5 days in advance. Who's really bidding??? And why would you do that to yourself, bidding that early.? I've bid on corals at the last minute, only to lose by a buck,Then a month or two later the same corals back up???? Fishy!!. Know I hear there's a snipper app you can use to bid for you.? I would never put up a high bid first.

There is a sniper app, I've used it and personally I don't trust it.

One time I bid on like 30 corals because I wanted a few and I figured since I wouldn't be home I'd more than likely get outbid in the last mins. When I came home later that night I was shocked to see that I actually won 21 of the 30 corals that I bid on..... It was over $500 worth of winnings and most of them were colony's, not frags....

This is exactly what I do. I try and bid with my wallet, not my emotions.
