What do you think are the keys to your success in reefing?
Patience. Finding how to do things your way instead of following all the ways of everybody else. Taking time to find what works for you, your time, budget etc. I do think that Reef2Reef however has taught me this. Members like Tbrown and KingRanch have taught me to do things my own way. I credit them for that.

Otherwise keep your head up and don't quit when times get hard. Trust me i've been there!
Yikes, sorry to hear. You just went on vacation, right? How'd that go?
Horrible. My parents didn’t even notice my clownfish jumped out and algae got pretty bad. It was a camp I went to and my parents were in charge of my animals while I was away

I recommend you put a tuxedo urchin, a few blue leg hermit crab, 2 or 3 Mexican turbo snails, astrias
Nervous to do an urchin due to it eating seams

Tuxedo urchins do not eat corals as far as I know, It can pick things up to camouflage itself but thats about as dangerous as it will be in your tank.

Alright than. Coral beauty is still alive today. She hasn’t eaten in a while as far as I know. Shes somewhat fat becuase I bought her like that so she’s got some stuff to burn. Still worried.

Anybody here know a good way to test nitrates/moniter them quickly and dose if they are to low or maybe even to high?
Neptune did just come out with a NP (Nitrate & Phos.) Trident, but that's very expensive. I would reccomend getting Hanna or Salifert phos. and nitrate tests, and test often. Find a way to keep track of them (I like to use an app called Aquatic Log). To lower them, grow macro, do WCs, or there are some chemicals that'll work. To increase them, Randy has a recipe that may work for you. Read through this thread :

Issue is they are really high. And thank you I’m looking for something in the 300$ range

Last checked last Wednesday at 80ppm coral beauty is suffering. Did 15 gal water change and planning to do another on monday
To start I don't believe you can get an automatic nitrate tester for under 300 dollars. Your next best option would be a Hanna checker. I know you have asked about carbon dosing in the past. Is there any reason why you did not do it?

I just didn’t have the time to get it all together I could try again.

Okay. Go test your water, come back and tell me what it is. Then we will brainstorm ideas.

My kit may be expired we will see though. Where do I find the date on API kits?

Even an expired API will give results, especially for nitrate.
Very very seldom is high nitrate a fish killer.
Only in the cases of the most fragile fish is this the case.
Hanna nitrate test kits are the easiest and most accurate IMHO.
Water changes are the best way to lower nitrate.
Don't be afraid to change as much water as you want. You're bacteria isn't in the water and it will provide relief .
I'm wishing you the best of luck.
Don't be afraid to ask questions.
Click my showcase thread link and ask questions there too.
Lots of awesome guys and gals there who can help and pass no judgements.
It's a great group and we'd love for you to be a part of it.
We can help too.

Sorry for 0 update been busy with football as soon as I can get my tank under control I'm gonna try weekly updates etc. nitrates still high GHA worse hammer not better. Lost my coral beauty. I changed my filter media out completely. Now I have seachem matrix new carbon purigen and some marineland filter floss. I'm working on installing a fuge into my Tidal 110 basket to control nitrates and KILL my GHA. I will be getting 10 turbo snails and 10 em crabs soon. I need to restock fish so I can get more then 3 taking tips but I'm gonna be doing a white tail tang and probably a flame angel. Looking for a last one possibly a rock or sand dweller. I'm also gonna be installing a icecap k-50 in VERY soon. I really need tips on my Tidal fuge tho and what light to use. Anyways best of luck to everyones reefs!

Two-a-days yet? I remember those days… brutal! What position do you play? I was an offensive tackle back in the day. Played a little 3-technique and nose on defense, but my strength was being a brick wall between the qb and the bad guys :beaming-face-with-smiling-eyes:
