Hey fellow reefers, decided to start a build thread and log my progress here.
let’s start with my backstory, I had kept a 20 gallon with 2 cichlids in it for over a year. A year later my friend gifted me a 40 gallon with lights, after cycling it and dosing, i was finally able to add fish. I started with a loach and a pictus catfish. I then added some soil and gravel and planted bamboo and Amazon swords! I added 2 angelfish that have grown to massive beauties today. I recently downgraded to a smaller sized tank and sadly got rid of the 40. After I learned all the unique ways I could plant my tank,. It sparked a fire that’s still going today.

I was gifted a biocube 29 roughly a year ago from my friend getting out of the hobby, I took this as a chance to start something new. I added live sand and live rock from my friends tank and let it cycle for WEEKS. At the 5 week marker I added one small clown and a new rock structure, to increase the nitrate cycle and give the fish somewhere to hide. I then began to get good progress as I just let the tank sit and marinate. I did have a little nutrient spike but that was fixed by MASSIVE Mexican turbo snails and a cleaner shrimp! After all my parameters were in line, I added a designer da vinci clown to pair with my ocelarris black clown! It was indeed a instant match, they love each-other! I let them be alone for about 2 weeks, then added a flame angel and slowly saw my clowns bully him to death, and sadly I couldn’t help him:( so I swore never to house anything with these clowns and let them own this small nano tank!

My passion for corals started what the heck gsp and Xenia coral,. That came from my lfs and were included free with sone materials I bought. They gave my tank diversity I had never thought it would, and I now am a proud owner of many lps, softies, zoas, shrooms, etc!

I recently grabbed a frag tank 20 gallon water box to house some of my corals and to qt sick fish! I upgraded to a AI prime 16hd and have never been able to set the colors the way I bought all the necessary materials but I can’t seem to beat the ugly stages... just problem after problem... I don’t dose anything so that might be my problem, but I’m unsure.

I’ll add pictures of my tank when I just started the hobby to now, and will keep you updated on my tank as of now!

Little update, my anenome has finally decided to make me pull the trigger on a new light, as she can’t stop “discovering” new corals in my tank to play with. I have been thinking about the new biocube 32 led hood for 170 or Steve’s led for 350. Steve’s has far better reviews and most people say the par is wayyyy better, but doesn’t this seem pricey for just a hood light?

Yeah I have considered that, and my friend is allowing me to experiment with his extra hood, but he tested positive for covid so I have to wait 2 weeks. I would rather keep the sleek look of having a hood over a rimless. Less water evap!

01/15/2021 update, everything is growing and are coloring up in my biocube, I have 3 new editions. Thanks to @littlebigreef, I now have 3 zoas of my forever wanted list, including Oompa loompas, fruit loops, and laser lemon!

My lps garden has strangely become more vibrant and much larger, but I’m not complaining...lol. My yellow hammer is by far the brightest sucker I have! They are small right now, but you get the picture.

My frag tank is starting off strong, housed my frammer, duncan, and DOZENS of zoas unit happily. My AI prime 16hd produces the perfect amount of light! Sadly I have some sort of brown/red algae growing on my glass that I’m unfamiliar with, and it SMELLS. I also believe I have cyano, but that’s my fault.... forgot to rinse the sand before adding to my tank.... newbie mistake.. but since then, it’s gotten a little better. I’m attempting to upgrade my filtration so I can get some filter floss in there. I also have new addition to this tank as well, they did get sadly get roughed up during shipping, but here they are.
