Hello all,
I jumped into keeping an bird's nest coral a few months back and have had some pretty good success despite a rocky start. Here's some background on this little colony.
(1st pic) When I bought the coral, it was all filled out and looked great. It sat on my frag rack for a few weeks while I considered how to mount it in my tank with no issues.
(2nd pic) First mistake, tried to mount it to a rock out of the water and ended up leaving it exposed for too long. I was very unhappy with myself and the colony lost some blotches of polyps.
(3rd pic) Regrew some growth while still on my rack.
(4th pic)Mounted in the tank, and actually started some good growth. I haven't had any real bleaching issues or slowing down in growth since my mishap in the 2nd picture.
(5th pic) Currently, still doing good. Growing a lot and has some good extension and seems to be happy.
But I've been looking recently, it seems the polyps aren't "thick" and as fleshy as before. But the overall skeleton IS growing and polyps are extending good.. not sure if this is a lighting/parameter problem since it sat on my frag rack for the first few weeks in my tank and showed no differences. I have a monti and hammer that is always looking bright and fully extended for the most part. Anybody else had issues with this? Not exactly what I would call bleaching. Just the tips seem to be colored up. Anything helps, thanks!
Parameters:
Ph:8.3
KH:7.5
Ca: 400 PPM
NO3: 5
PO4: .25 PPM
