There use to be amazing black Friday deals across most industries. The last couple years I haven't seen anything extraordinary. Reefing wise there is usually 15% off site wide. Right now MarineDepot is doing 11% off site wide for veterans day. I have discovered if you watch slickdeals over the course of a year you will find much better deals than what pops up during black Friday.

Last year when I was setting up my tank, I managed to pick up quite a few good deals. The expensive stuff, however, wasn't that significant. I'm not talking about fish or corals -- just the mechanics.

There's typically a BF thread started each year highlighting all the deals and door busters as they are announced.

Not hidden, just probably somewhere in the deep depths of the server...

Each year is different on what big ticket items go on sale. The past couple years it's been good deals, but nothing super crazy. Typically MAP items will go 10-15% off. ATI almost always does 10% off bulbs so it's a great time to stock up on T5s. Hanna checkers go on sale etc, etc.

Not really a BF deal, but Amazon has 40 lbs of Life Rock on sale for $83 (shipped): Amazon product ASIN B00IK5TJU4

That's just a little over $2/lb.

With everything going MAP including the small dollar items such as additives, the stores are at the mercy of the manufacturers. That means if one has it on sale, then most likely all the authorized sellers will be having the same deal. Some deals you will only see thru one online store that has worked out an exclusive. For the smaller business that only sells thru their own store and only online, it can be the only time each year to pick up a deal from them.

If you are looking for one or 2 specific items, you will just have to hope they actually go on sale if they are MAP priced.
