What causes black spots on Xenia?

Anybody see the tiny black spots on the stalk to the right, just left of the snail crawling on the overflow?

It occasionally will close a hand. It seems healthy, is splitting. Has had these spots for a month. Someone told me it would pulse more if I added pH buffer.

Adding pH buffer can be dangerous to a reef. It can spike your alkalinty.

Your Xenia may never pulse or might not even be Xenia. It may be Cespitularia.
