So I assume that this is bacterial growth, but I also know it's not good to assume. Periodically I have to rinse my filter of the stuff because it clogs them. Any advise is welcome.

Hey bud

Im still a Noob at all this SW stuff, but from what ive seen on the web it may be black algae? and i believe you should probably clean it all off and away rid off, as it isnt good for the tank, i got dark green to black cr@p in my filter too that i clean every so often but so far none in the tank other than Diatoms

Yea I dose vinegar and it's only in the sump filtration. It's definitely not black algae.
