Blue hermit crab question

Hello guys im a little confuse right now. Its the 3rd time i saw a body of a hermit crab on my sandbed. I only have two of them on my tank and i have some empty shells in my tank. When i first saw a body i thought one of them died but nope both of them are alive second same thing and now same thing. Now im wondering if they shed their skeleton like the shrimp of am i missing something.
