Hopefully I won't invoke the tang police, but I'm curious if my tang is sick. I moved this tank 3 weeks ago and the livestock has been in the tank for two weeks. I noticed some odd markers on the tang near the eyes. I've attached a video of the tang swimming around and as shown, there doesn't appear to be anything noticeably wrong with the tang other than the stuff by the eyes. I know they're very prone to ick, and all the animals have had a rough 3 weeks because I had all of them in a 12 gallon nano while I let the tank settle. This is my first experience keeping tangs and it has otherwise shown no odd behavior that I can tell. I'm feeding New Life Spectrum Marine Fish and I gave them a 3" piece of dried seaweed 2 days ago. The tang is very much the boss of the tank and feeds aggressively. I've been trying to feed multiple times a day (2-4) and make sure everyone is getting food.

Thank you in advance!

I'll post my water test results in a few! But everything has been in the normal range in the past two weeks, though the tank is still cycling through the brown algae phase because I had to remove most of the sand bed :sad-face: to get it into my house.

Water testing from the last 15 days:

01/10/2025
  • pH 8.2 - 8.4. No exact match
  • Ammonia 0.25ppm
  • Nitrite 0ppm
  • Nitrate 0ppm
  • Salinity 1.024

01/18/2025
  • pH 8.2 - 8.4. No exact match
  • Ammonia 0.25 - 0.50ppm on the higher side, closer to 0.50ppm
  • Nitrite 0ppm
  • Nitrate 0ppm
  • Salinity 1.027

01/25/2025
  • pH 8.2 - 8.4. No exact match
  • Ammonia 0.25 - 0.50ppm on the higher side, closer to 0.50ppm
  • Nitrite 0ppm
  • Nitrate 0ppm
  • Salinity 1.027

The ammonia is spiking and hasn't decreased from last week, so I'm going to do a water change and see how that changes the ammonia measurements

looks fine, i wouldnt worry too much about the marks. Mine has similar markings around the eyes

Thanks for taking a look y'all. Not long after this my 120 gallon developed a leak and I ended up splitting up everyone into two tanks, while I resealed and got the 120 going again. This poor Hippo Tang has had a seriously rough time of it :(. Though it is still looking rather healthy all things considered.
