A couple weeks ago I picked up a very cool looking maze brain and and a multi colored Favia. It's hard to tell in the pic but the Favia has hints of purple, green, yellow and brown. They currently have been sitting in the lowest lighted section of my reef half shaded for almost 2 weeks. My last batch of corals I did not acclimate very well and both SPS and LPS bleached. I have gotten most of them to recover but don't want to make the same mistake.

Live aquaria says moderate light and medium flow. I am assuming these are both sand bed corals. My lights are two OR247's Blues/ whites are 65/45. Blues are on for 9 hours whites are on for 7. Should it be safe to move them out in the open if they are opening their mouths, feeding, and not fading? They seem happy where they are but its not an optimal location for viewing.

Some blues only pics.

Did you at least use a free [HASHTAG]#lux[/HASHTAG] [HASHTAG]#meter[/HASHTAG] to measure your lights? Guessing is known to cause problems.

You can download an app to your smart phone that uses the camera's light sensor and some software to generate usable lux readings. "galactica luxmeter" for example.

Try it out and take some readings and post them here. Try to find what your peak reading is and how much areas covered by that peak. Also find out what the lowest levels are around the tank and where that coverage is.

I want a par meter but it's just not in the budget. I didn't know there where free ones for phones. Do you just put your phone in a water proof bag lol

You can also get a $15 (delivered) handheld meter - search for the "LX-1010B". That's what I use all the time. There are other similar ones. They give better readings and are less worry to use around your tank! :)

IME I always started my corals in lower lit areas. I would slowly move them to brighter areas over time, but if they showed signs of bleaching I would move them back. Just go slow, as with everything else in this hobby.

When to mix up fish meal: When was the last time you tried a different brand of food for your reef?
