I have my stand like 95 percent completed. All I need to add is the bottom. I was going to put four pieces of wood across as shown below and then put a piece of plywood on top (obviously cut to size). But then I got to thinking, couldn't I just put the piece of plywood on the bottom without those pieces of wood? Tell me what you guys think. Thanks!

That's what I did, plywood on bottom. Glue and screws no cross braces. I feel like it's just as strong. I used 15/32". Caulked around edges and some good quality paint and it will hold some water in an emergency.

I'd brace it if you are doing a sump. Just me.

Is there a real reason for the bracing though? It doesn't add any extra stability or strength. All it's really doing is holding it up above the floor 3-4 inches.

I won't risk sagging plywood.

I have a 75g sump no braces and it's over carpet. As long as you use 1/2 or thicker actual plywood I think your fine.

It probably is overkill.
