I've decided to set up a second mangrove tank. This one will be a shallow mangrove tunnel. Tank will start off as freshwater and eventually be converted to saltwater. Extremely easy and low maintenance set up.

Equipment
  • ADA 60f - 24x12x7"
  • 24" T5 Fixture | 4 6500k bulbs
  • Ecotech MP10
FTS

Thank you

Interesting Brad. What are you planning on stocking it with?

Focus is mostly on the mangroves and with starting off being a freshwater tank for the first 5-6 months, any stocking won't be really thought about until the summer. I do like the idea of a single small red star fish or fiddler crabs

Edit : seahorse? Would need to do my research first.

I'm looking forward to seeing this, your other tank is spectacular. I picked up one of the small ADA cubes recently, very nice tanks. That one is going to make an excellent build! Congrats

Water is almost cleared up. Moved around the sand as much as I could but need to buy a little more to finish the back left corner.

Wish they made a white mp10 lol. Thought about plasti dipping the dry side, but probably not worth the hassle.

These updates will be quite boring for the next 5-6 months lol

1 week.

Added 10lbs of Fiji pink ontop of the 20lbs of Bahamas Oolite which was ontop of 10lbs of live mud.

Running an AC20 to clear the water

Little bit of morning sun coming into the tank

I'm not very mangrove knowledgeable...

Is the MP10 needed in a mangrove tank? Seems like a flow would not be a huge issue, especially with nothing other than the plants in there...

Then again, see my opening statement....

Not necessary, but want some type of water movement. The AC20 is causing more disturbance to the sand than the MP10 did, so I might switch back to the MP10 once the water clarity is where I want it to be.

Im curious how these will develop the shape that you see in older plants. Are the roots growing up, or are you shaping these so that branches go down into the soil with new ones extending up, and you just keep pruning it that way? REALLY want to try this!
