I got some Gulf Live rock with a brain coral and it was bleached white when it arrived (see pics) in February. Since then, it appears to have perhaps come back? I’m a coral rookie- is it alive and well?

If it's soft and fleshy, it's still alive. Do you ever see it extend little tentacles around the polyps?

yea hard to tell. Could be algae growing. If it has any texture like other corals then possibly. But it's also brown like algae

It's fine. Not brain coral. It is a star coral, Siderastrea Radians. Super hardy. Feed it some reef roids and maybe some bits of mysis and it'll start sticking those tentacles out, now that the flesh has grown back.
