In the 60s, my dad got stationed to an air base in Topeka, Kansas. The very day we were moving in to our house - we were unloading the truck - a huge tornado hit and did a whole bunch of damage to the town. We hadn't been there 6 hours and were in the basement of the nearby National Guard armory for the night. At lease with hurricanes, you have time to get out of the way. Not so much with tornadoes.

Heck, we get nor'Easters that do more shoreline damage than the occasional hurricane.

Moderate weather. Not midwest hot or midwest cold.
