Brand New 8 gallon bio cube

I have some good news.

I got home from work just now and the frags are back to being happy.

The only two things it could have been were alkalinity and phosphates bottoming out.

I didn’t test phosphates last night but made a .02ppm dose.

I also mixed in a little bit of salt.

So it’s one of those two things. I’m leaning phosphates since I only added enough salt to raise salinity by 1ppm which probably didn’t affect alk much.

It's always nice to figure things out!

I can not see the words “good news” without thinking about the Professor

Also, I figured out why the Chemiclean took so long to work for me!

It’s because my dumb a** forgot to remove a small carbon pack snuck deep into my little hob filter. It was tucked behind a new larger one.

My guess is it removed quite a bit of the Chemiclean.

Feel free to join in on my self deprecation.

Or, it kept the chemiclean from harming your fish/corals in any way!

To me you have been a bit of a live wire (no disrespect), slowly, small changes, natural is better, looks like you are getting there! :)

Really is. The most stressful thing in this hobby is not knowing how to handle a situation.
Call Robin. He likes the F word. My call was like this. "Well F. I don't know what the F is happening, or how the F to fix it." F-ity FFF

It's true, I'd make a drunken sailor blush...

Water change is my answer to just about everything.
Ca out of whack, water change
Coral looking so so and cant figure out why, water change
Constipated, water change

Personal rant. Has anyone shipped UPS this holiday? Next day is really 5 days and 3 day is really 12?! The cost is about 3x higher than last year too.
Well, between the holiday rush and Florida cops... ;Facepalm

My concern with water changes is a.) you can’t diagnose what occurred to prevent it in the first place and b.) it could throw things even more out of whack.

Since this was a phosphate issue, a water change would have made it worse.

I dose phosphate to new water so it wouldn’t have made a difference though.

I can’t believe how many people ignore phosphates with how important they are to a tank and how material 0 phosphates are to a corals health.

I get to add 6 new frags to the display and everyone is happy now so everything is all good.

I have a problem getting rid of them so, adding them on purpose seems backwards.

Besides, I'd rather my fish make poop than dose chemicals.

Once your tank gets a bit older it won’t be such a concern. Your rocks can only absorb so much! My fish food has phosphates, my coral food has phosphates...my fishes poop, my urchin poops (omg does my urchin poop!). Also, I don’t run a skimmer, so all that yummy phosphate goodness just stays in the tank waiting to grow stuff. Like algae to feed my hermits, snails, and urchin! don’t want them to starve ;)
