Brand New 8 gallon bio cube

Nope. I know everyone has their custom tank drilled for this. I don't. I think it back siphons too much water and I don't trust check valves. The less points of failure, the better to me.
although I certainly don't think it has to be drilled, I like a drilled return. I have always just placed my return nozels close to the surface. It helps with surface agitation and allows very little back siphon. I don't use or trust check valves either but it hasn't been and issue. I understand this point of view though.

I would assume I would drill it from the top down? If I did decide to try it.
Yes, watch a couple of videos. It really is easy, just remember to take your time. There is no rush, and if it takes 5 min to drill the hole that's fine. But looks at over the back too, just to look at all options.

The bottom glass is 1" thick.
Is there enough room in the bottom in the overflow? Or will you need to drill it in whet ever will be the back of the tank? 1" thick glass will make it even safer to drill.

As @mch1984 has already answered, along with that kid @
How difficult is it?

As that kid @Musovski and @mch1984 have indicated. Drilling glass is not difficult, at all. A main point most people don't seem to get is to NOT PUT ANY PRESSURE ON THE DRILL. Just let the weight of the drill be the pressure.
There are many videos on drilling tanks and glass.
I'm fairly sure we'll know about what you're going to do before you do it.

I've had both drilled returns and over-the-edge returns. They both have pros and cons and, at the end of the day, it comes down to what you prefer.

Also, being i work at home depot again.... specifically hardware. i recommend not using the bosch bits. Although Bosch is a great name, they 1) dont have big enough sizes and 2) tend to do a bit more damage than the other bits.

These are best bet: https://www.bulkreefsupply.com/diamond-coated-glass-drill-bits.html

FYI - THK has their own eBay store. If you're not in a hurry, you can get the hole saw for much less money.
agreed. this was just the easiest way for me to link. sorry.

I use the ebay ones. Remember they are different sized for the sch80 bulkheads if you decide to go that route.
Good point, I would have forgotten all about that. I could see it now, tank is drilled (all excited) put the bulkhead in......doesn't fit.

Any ice cream left. I like chocolate ice cream and strawberries on top or anything with peanut butter, chocolate and pretzels are also good.
I have no opinion on plumbing. A bought a box that you add water and fish to look pro
