What is something that is cheap and commonly available that I could use as an amphipod breeding ground? Ex. Pot scrubbies and corrugurated plastic.

You can use those sponge pads you get with HOB filters or buy them independently. Little piles of rubble work well also. Chaeto offers another good pod preserve area. You'll see a significant increase in pod numbers if you feed Phytoplankton as well.

Non scented bath puffs work as well as a refuge. You can get cheap ones at the dollar store.

Interested in this as well. I've thought about making a separate refugee inn order to control nitrates, but I'm still on the fence about putting it in a section of my sump

For some reason the Chaeto in my tank doesn't grow. It just shrinks. It gets tumbled around but nope. No growth

Not a lot. Just enough so that it tumbles slowly. I have 2x 10w CFL's on it. But it's been in my tank for 2 months and just gets smaller
