Breeding Silver Sides??

thinking of a cheap and healthy way to feed a ton of predators some live food. i dont trust "pet store" feeders or creek minnows like some people use. wondering if anyone ever had any luck with keeping a silver side tank and having free food? lol.

I think silver sides are pelagic spawners which will make them pretty difficult to breed. Just a thought however as I have no experience with breeding them.

Silversides are oviparus, so it wouldn't be too hard to breed them. Breeding and rearing saltwater fish is not anything similar to freshwater fish. It's very labor intensive.

I would just buy frozen ones and revive them.. they should reproduce well

im not hung up on silver sides i just have used them frozen as feeders and wondered if i could keep them. im open to other fish i could keep that would easily spawn on thier own to use as feeders. im not trying to have another constant "project" spending much time on them. got enough maintenance and bs to deal with lol.. ive got several empty tanks hanging around i could set up for growing some feeders. any thoughts?

I'd go Mollies then for sure, they breed easy and you can acclimate them over to full salt.

will the offspring be salt living? ive done plenty of freshwater, i could keep a fresh tank for feeders if need be. done it before..

Mollies are brackish so i would imagine you could bring in full salt.

I have dropped fw mollies straight into full blown salt and they sutvived w.o. any acclimating at all. Depending on how many predators you have, id start with atleast a colony of about 20 or more adult mollies (1m:4f) to keep up with the demand.
