SCIENTIFIC NAME: Chaetodon modestus

COMMON NAME: Brownbanded Butterflyfish

SIZE: 6.6†(17 cm)

MIN. AQUARIUM SIZE: 75 US Gal (284 L)

FOODS & FEEDING: Feeds on benthic invertebrates and marine preparations for carnivores.

REEF COMPATIBILITY: Not recommended.

CAPTIVE CARE: This is a deep water species and little is known of its dietary needs. The Brownbanded Butterflyfish inhabits rock formations to depths of 820 ft (250 m) and is mostly seen at depths in excess of 361 ft (110 m). This species requires low lighting and cool temperatures in the range of 66-72 F (19-23 C). Because of this species’ special carerequirements, it is not found in the aquarium trade.
