BRS vs Nextreef vs Vertex Reactor

I picked up the BRS Dual Reactor. Did you guys opt to use the MJ1200, or T-off return pump?

Also, where do you have the exit flow > into the sump (skimmer chamber, fuge, or return) or into the main tank?

I've been browsing around and looking for a good GFO reactor. (For carbon, i'm just going to use a bag)

Many like the TLF, but I heard of leaks from a decent amount, so I'm gonna pass on that one.

BRS Single reactor has nothing but good reviews and good price.

I saw the Nextreef and Vertex UF-15 reactor at a LFS and they look really nice, found a few posts about Nextreef on various forums, but nothing on Vertex.

So is it worth the higher price? Can a GFO reactor be that much more better? There are ones costing $100-$200 too.

BRS $40 - Nextreef $70 - Vertex $90 ?

i use a lot of nextreef reactors at home, the store, and on maintenance clients' tanks.

very nice reactors imho!

any reactor can leak i have seen all these in person you cant go wrong with any reactor but the kent one

I like the Vertex for 3 things

1- The regulator valve included it lets you adjust the flow thru it
2- The universal coupling it lets you take it out anytime just uncrewing them
3- Quality they are built very nice

I have the BRS Dual reactor and IMO there is nothing easier to set-up and change media with than this unit...
It too includes a ball valve (as does all others I believe)
interior cartridges (same as DI resin cartridges from an RO/DI unit) make changing media a no-mess, quick process...
And the price is unmatched....even the Dual chamber unit is priced better than other's Single units...

only disadvantage I can see with the BRS unit is you can't mount them in-sump like some others....

totally agree with you. i got the BRS dual as well and it is more sturdy than the TLF. this canister is basically a converted RO/DI Di canister.

I got the BRS dual reactor and so far so good. Just set up mine a week ago, so haven't had the chance of changing my media yet. The build quality is great.

I use the BRS Dual Reactor. It's a great unit. Easy to use and maintain.
I use a maxi-jet 1200 and have the return from the reactor go into the return area of the sump

I use the dual BRS reactor as well and have to say it is awesome. It hold plenty of media and since I use the dual I run GFO in my first chamber and GAC in my second. FWIW I love the BRS High capacity GFO and the Rox 0.8 is great carbon.

BRS is the best deal around. Sturdy, Easy to clean and I have mine mounted in the sump with not problem.

I just got the BRS single reactor. Which pump do you guys run on it? I was thinking a mj 900 instead of a 1200 as I dont want a lot of flow. This is solely for carbon.

I run a mj1200 on my dual reactor and still have to dial it down. Don't need much flow for the carbon IMO.

Are you able to fluidize the media in the BRS?

I have the dull BRS reactor and when you first set it up is works good but you have to clean the media chambers often if you have a high nutrient system like my self. For a small thank there great for the price and it does not take up much room and you can put the unit anywhere.

With my system I use it for carbon in both sides of the BRS reactor and I have to clean it every 2 week or it clogs up with stuff and slows the water running through it.

If you have the room the other two are a good choice because there bigger and you can put more media in them. I have grown my system all most 10 x the water volume I had 3 years ago. I have out grown my stuff you could say and I have pushed my equipment to the limit…;) but for the price and space savings for 150 gal or less the BRS reactor is a good thing and it is simple to use and it is really easy to setup.

I now am upgrading all of my reactors to new ones and I am thinking about the Next Reef reactors. They look good and it is easy to remove the reactor from the lid so you can change the media. I really hate when you have to fight the reactor to just get the lower part off to change the media. The ones that you have to twist the lid more then a ¼ turn to remove really is such a hassle when it is tucked back in the stand. I hop this helps
