This is my BTA. I have had him for 7 weeks, over the last three days he has not been fully closing his mouth. and is now as you see above. When the tank lights are on he still inflates his tentacles, but does not fully extend his pedastal. I checked his foot, still firmly attached. I fed him yesterday, he ate as usual, but returned to mouth open about 4 hours after. I am concerned he might be on his way out. What do you guys think? Ammonia 0, Nirtite 0 and Nitrate are 0, Alk is 8dKh, Calcium 450, Mag 1500.

It appears to be a very young tank. Is that correct?
That can cause issues.

Have you tested ammonia ?
Are you using rodi water?

This was my first guess as well, tank looks pretty new. But 8 months should be established. What l8ghting do you have him under? If flow is an issue he would have let go and moved around, but you said his foot is firmly planted...hmmmmm

Looks like he is expelling waste, he keeps getting "stringers" stuck to his mouth, he closed his mouth today after I removed the stringer.

How often are you giving him food. Maybe try backing off feeding for few days.they only need food one to two times a week..
