I inherited a nano tank. It has been well established. I added 2 clowns and gave them time to acclimate. After a while I added a BTA. The first st few days everything appeared normal. I then came in one morning to find it had moved to a recessed area of the rock. Now almost everyday it retreats fully enclosed into the rock. During the day it will come back out.

Certainly does not look happy. Exactly why, I could not say. How long have you had it? What are ALL your parameters and lighting?

open mouth is usually a sign that the anemone is 1- not doing well or 2 - expelling dead tissue. it could be healing itself or slowly deteriorating. the second and third photos looks good. btw are pretty hardy. im with p-dub on wanting to know the lighting and how long you've had the anemone and exactly how long the tank has been set up.

Here are current pictures. Tank Coralife Bio-Cube and is several years old.

It appears it's adjusting to the move. The latter pics look much better. I'd let it be, keep prams stable and don't feed it for a couple of weeks. Let it re- acclimate itself and you should be good.

My young BTA looked exactly the same.
shriveled up. tentacles, brown body, but hanging on the side of the rock.
It had hidden inside a rock crevice from day one for about a week. Only saw the green tips.
Then she moved, came out and decided to play dead.
The mouth was opening and closing like she was gasping. and she turned into a 10 cent size anemone.
Decided to wait a few hours and voila she's back to her original size and looks well.
Wonder what happened?
