These are new for me and I was wondering what is best to feed and how frequently? They are about 2 inches in size. Thanks all!

I feed mine every other day. Sometimes pieces of silversides, sometimes leftover sashimi (mostly tuna, salmon and other raw fish).

I have 2 of them. a yellow and a green. They seem to deflate a bit during the day. The yellow one is still not very happy. He dug himself into a cave and I had to rearrange the rocks to get him back into the light. Is this normal? I tried to feed him and he just spit the silverside out. The green one has settled in the corner and my maroon is loving it. He seems happier and ate when I gave him a small piece. thanks again, Frank.

Remember its a free roaming creature. You can try to do what you think is best for it but it's going where it wants. That being said I feed mine once or twice a week with PE mysis.

I'll keep that in mind. I was worried it wouldn't get the light it would need to survive if it went under. It's starting to hide again so I'll let it and hope for the best. And I guess I'll feed once every 2-3 days. Can't be dirtying up the water. Thanks all!

How big do you want it to get? I'd govern feeding based on that, and how much room you have around it. Feed it alot and it should get bigger, feed it less and it needs better lighting. Don't have scientific studies to back any of that up, but it seems to me that feeding mine every other week they stay roughly the same size, feed less and it seems they are more likely to move looking for better spots. Feed more and they seem to grow faster. Again, just my subjective experiences, FWIW.

Learn something new every day :) Cool. I guess I'll feed heavy now because they're both pretty small and then cut back when they get a little bigger.

Up to a point though, if you feed them more than they can eat they just kick it back out. Off hand I don't know how long it takes a nem to digest anything, and its never an issue for me as I don't feed them that often.

Sorry for thread crapping, sometimes the tentacles will contract a bit when they are overfed as its trying to deal with the food. Of course, sometimes the tentacles contract because they have too little food, and sometimes they contract because its tuesday and they feel like it.

Look to see if he expels food, if so cut back a bit.

watch the yellow one closely; thats not a common color and more than likely its a green one that has partially bleached.

Stable water conditions and good lighting is more important that consistent feeding, btw. Nems can and do get some level of nutrition from digesting food, but the vast majority of its energy is gained from its symbiotic algae. Feeding can help nems that are bleached, but frequently a bleached nem has also released or fired most of its nematocysts which makes it very difficult for it to feed until they are replaced

I agree with the above posts as well. you can over feed them. I wouldn't feed any more than every other day, though I have gone as long as every two weeks for over 6 months without any issues.
