I'd just remove the cup and let the water over flow back into the tank. Get that aeration and return the bacteria back into the tank. The aeration is the most important part imo.

I also hooked my air inlet to a CO2 scrubber and have the skimmate flowing into an external container. I also connected the skimmate container to the inlet of the CO2 scrubber. Doing this keeps my pH between 8 and 8.2.

My curve 5 will be here in a few days...... I hope I have the same results!

EDIT: You have a 7 in a 40g?!?! Man.... I may be WAY under-estimating what I need!

Yeah, I was going to go for the Curve 5, but I felt it would be a bit underpowered for a heavily stocked tank. Like Kasey said, shooting for double the tank volume is a good idea when running a heavily stocked tank.

Most say "Up to, Moderate Bio-load, and heavy Bio-load" the Elite 5 just says "Up to 130g" now I'm worried it's not enough (not that I plan on a heavy bio-load)
Im going to have a coral catshark and skeletor eel in my tank, very heavy bioload. As long as your bio load is heavy and you have a well established colony of bacteria you should be good. I've heard a ton of good things about bubble magus skimmers.

What is the reason for having the CO2 scrubber? Besides the ph balance.

Just more stable pH. Higher pH means better/faster stony coral growth. I'll try to find the BRS video on the subject. Really changed my mind on the whole use of a CO2 scrubber.
Ah okay, unnecessary for me with just a FOWLR tank.

Elevate unit more, but first assure intake is not clogged with chaeto, snail, etc and possibly change pump which will change the flow

Did you mean powerhead not pump? I have one very strong powerhead a jebao pp-20. Makes nice waves, would that affect the skimmer though?
