Has anyone ever took a 20g or another size cheap tank and cut it in half to make a shallow frag tank? I'm thinking of this when I hit up the next $1 a gallon sale.

Me too. I have a 29 but it was a sump and kinda crappy looking. I think a 20 long cut down to around 6" tall would look good. I dont think any of them are tempered until you get to a 40 then the bottoms are temperedFollowing along, i was going to pick up a 20l on the next sale snd make it into a frag tank
Yea my son did a 10g. Wasn't too hard and no I wouldn't use it again.Just be prepared to spend a lot of time removing the top frame if you want to save it to cover the newly cut glass. They don't like to come off easily
I'm just wondering why it wouldn't be much, much easier to just build an eggcrate stand in the 20H tank, and then take advantage of the bigger water volume with the same height for the corals?
I did that for a long time, worked out just fine. Can even place Powerhead under the eggcrate which is nice.I'm just wondering why it wouldn't be much, much easier to just build an eggcrate stand in the 20H tank, and then take advantage of the bigger water volume with the same height for the corals?
I want the look of a shallow tank and it will be plumbed into the display.I'm just wondering why it wouldn't be much, much easier to just build an eggcrate stand in the 20H tank, and then take advantage of the bigger water volume with the same height for the corals?
