This is interesting. I've never smelled burnt water before. It really stinks though. Clearly this pump should have been retired years ago. It's an old aqua medic ocean runner 2500. It was a return pump but after it started needing a poke after a power failure to restart it was retired to mixing use / emergency return. Just after black friday it stopped working but after cleaning it out I got it to work again however it would periodically shut off and start up. Still okay for mixing. Well it only took a few more weeks to run it into the ground.

Besides the cords coming out there is no physical damage but the pump itself smells terrible. Finally it's going in the garabge but I had it about 10 years so I got my moneys worth.. I just hope after washing out my mixing container it doesn't smell.

Yikes! Hows the container...still stinky?

After some dish soap I got it clean. The burnt water really smelled bad though. Purchased a cheapo amazon pump to replace it which seems to be working fine and it can double as a return in an emergency. As I suspected it will generate enough heat mixing 10-15g at a time a heater isn't needed as well.
