I have 4 colonies of Acropora with burnt tips , I think I have come up with the reason why this has happened my nutrients where at o . I have tried to cut the burnt tips off thinking it would start some new growth but instead algea has started to grow on the tips where I cut them off . Are these Acropora gowing to recover or not ? Any ideas on what to do ? Thanks B

Solve for the 0 nutrients first. Dose NO3 and PO4 or add extra fish feedings & fish.

If you get your parameters correct and stable then they should be able to recover.
You are right about what causes burnt tips, high alk/cal and low nutrients. The high alk/cal encourages skeletal growth but the low nutrients cause the tissue to not be able to grow as quick as the skeleton leading to the tissue being too thin.

+1
So the layer was there, just thin. Don't cut next time. Hopefully they recover.
