honestly there reall are no cons if you are buying from a good vendor which there are tons of here! I mean I guess shipping stinks I hate waiting for them! but if anything happens during shipping or something like that most vendors will take care of the problem.

I would suggest you check out the vendor list and feedback section of the Forum.

It is easy to get lured in by people with great photography skills. I have ordered based on the photo presented online and was always disappointed when I received it and it looked nothing like the pic. Or buy from some high end, big named grower and the coral doesn't last a week. Sometimes the coral just can't handle the stress of shipping. It can be a crap shoot.

What's the pros and cons of buying corals online?

Pro's is getting some beautiful pieces not found at your local fishstore.

Cons, buying for someone you don't know, and can't see the item in person.

However if you buy from reputable people you'll be ok. Check out battlecorals, Adam is awesome, his corals are sick, and he'll hook you up!

PMs?

Well I'm not going to purchase something expensive because of those risks! So it's more like an experiment!

You gotta think every piece of coral is shipped in to the wholesalers and then to the vendors who ship coral out everyday to people. Its just part of the hobby, it's really not that risky. Obviously a possible con is a shipping delay or something like that, but it is slim. If you go buy some plain coral from the lfs- it was shipped to them, I would rather take the tiny risk of the package not making it so I can buy the exact pieces I want.
