Buying a motorcycle?

I always buy new, warranties make a huge difference to me. I have been burned once on a used bike and thrice on used cars. Never again will I trust some other dope. I always treat my things with the respect they deserve. I will gladly pay more Benjamins for the peace of mind of not riding backwards on my friends bike.

There are new bikes for beginners that don't come with the hefty price tag of a certain iconic brand.

I buy my street bikes new, it’s easier and once you get into higher end bikes it’s the better way to go IMO.

I do buy used dirt bikes but I’m a KTM guy and there is a great dealer where i live that can fix if need be.

I feel like bikes hold their value so well you won’t save like you do buying used cars. I refuse to buy anything with 4 wheels new, I don’t care enough about cars to buy new. Cars became boring old news the day I rode my first bike.

If you’re buying your first bike, buy whatever is easiest to get your hands on and realize you’re either going to decide you don’t want to ride or you’re going to want something different fairly quickly.

Buy Used... and look at the upgrades. Most people that are selling used expect to get next to nothing for all the upgrades. it is a good way to get the bike and potential upgrades for a great price.

I used to ride BMW bikes, and those can be a little tricky used.... if buying a high dollar, high performance bike ask for service records and talk to the service shop first
Had me a sweet old BMW years ago...best bike I ever had..1978 r100rs

Like others have said buy used, especially if it's your first bike or first bike in a long time. Bikes are higher tech these days which are nice but man they can be stupid fast even an FZ-07 which doesn't have a tune like a supersport is so fast. I ride a 600rr my first bike now but my older 500r got dropped so many times on dumb spots like the driveway. I was glad af I didn't buy new. I bought my '06 600rr for 2500 salvage title and i already got it up to 30k miles with nothing but a new chain filter and oil. So sometimes the gem is hidden in the pile of dookie and you just gotta clean that dookie a bit for it to really shine. Get gear before your bike too, helmet, gloves, jacket shoes pants in that order if you can't get them all at once.

If you got the money and all go new, warranties are nice and bikes keep their value pretty dam good, but just remember to factor in good gear costs in your budget.. In my area a '06 600rr clean title with like 15k miles would go for between 5k-6k which i would say is pretty good.

Riding is dam good fun. Don't ride past your abilities of course and be real with your self assessment. After I got my bike I lost all interest in driving. I'll do whatever I can to run all my errands on a bike now. Thankfully in California I can lane split too.

Lots of good info and thank you to everyone that chimed in. I am looking into a KTM 390 Duke first bike for my kid, I found a new 2016 for 3999. A new 2018 is 5200, so it is a good discount. I live in a year around state for riding with great riding near by. The dealer is trying to get 1500 dollars in fees on the bike as well, I chaffed at that added expense and they did not want to talk to me after that, typical bike dealers. I have bought cars through the internet so I am not afraid to go that route.

I was looking into a enduro Yamaha WR250 or KTM 450 isch I used to ride motocross every day after school ,wherever we could find a dirt field and be one step a head of the local police.
