I forgot to mention , does anyone have a reputable power strip? I am not planning on using apex right now so anything will suffice

Here’s some inspiration:

A sheet of MDF can be used in place of acrylic to mount your controllers inside the cabinet… automotive style split cable sleeving organizes and contains to cord octopus…

Mount your power strip(s) on another board inside the cabinet, up off the floor where water splashes/as far away from the sump as possible…

Split cable sleeving for all the power cords, and bundles of extra cord length to tidy if all up, and you have yourself a clean electrical install!

I’m a big fan of ANKER surge protectors and 3M VHB tape to secure in to the inside of the cabinet.

I recommend reading the power strip safety article I linked above!

To quote:

“Many plug strips are sold as “surge strips” and have components called MOVs (see sidebar) built in to help absorb surges on the power line. While MOVs do work with certain types of surges, they can only absorb a finite number of surges. That is, surge strips have a limited life and the entire surge strip must be replaced when they wear out. In fact, surge strips with MOVs should be replaced as regularly as every 12 to 18 months (depending on the power quality where they are installed). Some surge strips even have indicator lights that show if the surge protection MOVs are still viable. The problem with MOVs is that when they wear out (or get hit by an extremely large surge) they can explode and/or catch on fire!”

I skipped all of that and just ran all the wires behind the tank agents the wall then they go right into the Kasa outlet strips. It’s probably a mess behind there but can’t be seen

Thanks for the info. I’ll check out that link. As far as I can tell the Anker brand doesn’t say it uses MOVs but I’m gonna open up an old one I have laying around the house and get a look. My plan is to have the power strip plugged into a UPS in case of power outages.

Agreed, I’m using the same exact ANKER power strip/surge protector on my 90G system. Trusted quality except it’s not a smart plug. Not a big deal if you have wifi enabled devices and a small fraction of the cost for the peace of mind.
