California Drought?

This has been on my mind a lot. How is the drought affecting you hobby wise?
I've seen several news reports only and it is very worrisome to me that water levels are so low [emoji45]

So far they arent really messing with us too much at least here north of sac. They are really looking at the ag business and the big water wasters so far

Yea I think they are mostly going after the really big water users for now but if it keeps up things could change and they might go after LFS or large pet shops like PetSmart & PetCo (lets face it, they use lots and lots of water)

For awareness, we minimize our Sprinkler time in our lawn and I do not have a RO/DI, which I cannot stand the waste water.
I am aware that there are some RO/DI is capable of zero waste water.
Been using Distilled water on or standard 29g by the gallon and no issues.

That's always been my problem with the RO/DI units. The best ones I have seen are 1:3 RO/DI:waste, if they ever get better I will get one.

There are 2:1 units - Spectrapure has a couple in the mid-$400 range and Icecap has a new unit coming out that the say will get 2:1.

Also there is Kold Steril - it has zero waste. It isn't real common in the reefing world, but I know several people that use it with success.

I know this is crazy
But I heard they recycle the water
And some of us have a stable system so we do less water changes.
Plus I never throw the water out side I u drained it down the sink.

I heard California is going to tax based on usage :( they already cant water any lawns. If any thing I would imagine their keeping a closer eye on usage and taxing accordingly. Maybe the glacier water machines? I used em for a while im not sure on the tds but it worked for me, even has a uv sterilizer. Might be a good way to keep em off your back

not yet we havent. They have programs where you can turn in water wasters for money. They have talked about going to a tiered rate like we have in our elect. They started it but because of a certain law they had to take it off

I don't live in Cali, but I try not to waste water. I have an ro/di system which has a 100 gallon tank. When I fill it up I have a hose that I connect to it and it drains into the pool or the pond. If you don't have a pool or pond for the waste to go to, then maybe it can go to watering the plants.

You are correct about the taxing according to usage here in Los Angeles. Households get fined if they pass the amount estimated for water usage in their home.
