IMO Colt is not worth the money at all, I've never seen any data saying it was any more reliable or accurate. The only differences I know of are that Colts use proprietary trigger group pins that are larger than every other manufacturer, I have heard they were going away from it though.

I don't think he is exactly limiting himself to ruger or SW but they are common reputable names in firearm world.

I still propose you build one. you don't have to do a full build but you can get a complete lower with mil spec M4 stock for under 200$ than get a upper assembly and BCG. more like assembling than building but can work out in your favor money wise and astetics wise.

New question:

How does the Colt expanse m4 compare to the Ruger ar-556? Is it worth spending 100 bucks more or not really?

Both rifles are identical except for a few things......

1) The Colt's barrel is a 1-7 twist and the Ruger is 1-8 twist. Faster twist rates equate to better shooting of heavier grain loads but the 1-8 will shoot 35 to 77gr bullets. Now in my experience not many shooters choose that light or that heavy of a bullet and they are often not in stock at most retailers and are more expensive. What you will most likely come across is 55gr to 62gr bullets so either rifle will handle them just fine.
2) The Colt will not have a dust cover or push assist. Colt figured the everyday shooter did not need these parts so they left them out to save cost. The holes are drilled into the receiver so you can add them if you wish. The Ruger does have both already installed
3) The Ruger has a proprietary barrel nut and threaded delta ring. This is supposed to better the process of changing out handguards. The downside is it is proprietary but nothing that should cancel a decision to buy.

My conclusion is both will go bang when you pull the trigger, which is what you want, and both will last. Any increase in the Colt's price is due to the name. Both are properly priced for an entry level AR15.

The sig M400 is a good gun and price is good as well. I have one and also have an M&P AR10 chambered in .308. M&P is a good manufacturer but be careful they have some low end guns made AR-15. Like anything you get what you pay for.

Well that was my original option was to build one but having to be 21 to buy the lower on psa really put me in a jam as I am not 21 yet.

I ended up buying this gun this morning and it should be here by Friday if the ffl it was sent to is still open when they try to deliver it. If not I assume they will try to driver Saturday. Either way, it'll be here in time to shoot some bullets for Labor Day weekend!

Dex CDNN does mostly retail pricing but occasionally do dealer sales should send them your info and get set up with them always have good deals going

ive heard some issues with the S&W stuff lately, don't know how much merit there is to it but that's what ive heard....ive got an FNH FN15 absolutely love it, great price great FN quality and shoots awesome FWIW
