Hello,

So I’m wondering what is this stuff growing out of the sand and it is attaching to the bottom of the coral here. It also turns the sand bed into a gel like form. Anyone know what this is?

I see anthellia xenia and a macro known as ulva

Whatever it is, is impossible to remove. It travels under the sand bed and finds its way to corals. It starts off as a reddish blob and now I’m seeing those Xenia like hairs

It sure looks insidious to me. It looks like a form of Anthelia, but I have never seen it do that before.

Weird. Does it retract when you touch it? Have you tried to dig one out to see what the 'root' end looks like?

I have some of this too. It seems to me to be a kind of brown clove coral. It makes a netting under the substrate and grows out of it. Soon enough it climbs on rocks and around other corals.

I do my best to take out most of the netting during water changes but it barely holds it at bay. I have used some hydrogen peroxide as a spot treatment with moderate success. Next I'm planning to use sodium hidroxide to burn it off allong with some aiptasia.

As far as I gathered they can be eliminated entirely by using fenbendazole, but the treatment seems to be very agressive towards anemones and other soft corals.

Exactly! The netting is what happens! I end up removing hunks of sand trying to get rid of it. I’m willing to try anything to get rid of it. Even go sand less, if that’s possible without crashing the tank. I have mainly all soft corals
