Can I help my Trachy?

Awww man. I’m sorry to hear that. Yeah, rather than possibly infecting my other corals, I thought it was best to just cut my losses and let it go. The coral had an awful smell once I pulled it out of the water, so I couldn’t image how it would be still in the tank.

At least you know some people that sells Trachys. Let me know if you find a good deal for me!

Check for dm from me

I did the kfc procedure last night. 10 hours.

Prewash yielded the truth. Much worse than I thought. Everything under the jelly flaked off and half the coral is lost. And it stunk like rotten fish

I left in kfc for about 10 hours then did post wash. No more smell. Nothing looked “worse”

I hesitated to return to the tank but decided to place back in its spot and align the skeleton back in the cave opening to shield from light

Next day…jelly has not returned so far. I don’t trust it’s healed in a day. I still feel this piece is in a fragile, weakened state, and honestly I expect to lose it. I may do nightly kfc dips to keep infection from redeveloping. Will have to take it day by day…monitor, treat, repeat

Anyway. This is the next day pic. I’m hoping it can pull through. The lack of jelly redevelopment gives me some hope

I know someone that fragged off the healthy part of a trachy dying like this and it worked. The fragged off part completely healed up on the exposed side. Just as a last remedy maybe for you to try

Thank you, unfortunately the trachy declined rapidly and is lost.

I would have needed a wet saw for something this size. It’s beyond capabilities of my dremel :(

Same is happening for me

I do full kfc with the pre/post wash. It comes out looking cleaned and better. Put back in the tank. Me too morning still looks ok. And by evening the jelly is returning and more of the coral lost.

I’ve done this 2 times in a row and am on my third attempt. It just keeps coming back. I’m ready to give up before it infects my tank. The dips are slowing progress but not curing unfortunately
What was your result?

Appreciate you going through your journey. Looking into a trachy and it’s good to see issues before they happen. It was a beautiful peace I’m sorry you lost it

They are easy just don’t let them get irritated by sand. I keep all mine on small pedestals after I lost that blue one

These are my replacements. Had to upgrade lol

They’re stunning, colors on them put scolys to shame I think. I can only imagine how that corner looks when they’re all feeding in person!

Do you have vendors you trust for them? I was hoping I’ll find a healthy one at reefapalooza

Unfortunately no, I don’t have any recommendations for them. I got these from a wholesaler my lfs uses.

I lost my trachy just like this except no brown jelly issues. The fresh just receded over a period of months and no amount of peroxide dips, spot treatments, and iodine fixed it. One the flesh started melting from the inside out I put it out to pasture.
