Hi folks

I have a 220L tank and I would like to put a HOB protein skimmer on it but it has a 3inch glass rim !

Would I get away with just removing one end of it see picture I've put a X on the bit , or is this structural ??

Cheers

I wouldn’t remove it, it’s there for a reason. Why do a hob and not put in the sump?

I would ask the manufacturer personally. If they tell you in writing that it's fine to remove it, then you have your bases covered if it goes wrong. Plus they would be likely to know.

If you do decide to remove the glass piece I would get a piece of acrylic same thickness as the piece you are removing with the profile of the HOB skimmer cut in it and silicone it back in place so that if it is structural it’s covered.
