I have a Fluval 13.5 and I've converted chamber 2 into a small refugium. I also added an Aqua UV 8w classic in-line with my return pump (in chamber 3 right after the refugium). My question is: will I be able to sustain a copepod population while running the UV? It's a pretty large UV for the tank.

If not, what are my options to sustain a microfauna population? Maybe run uv on schedule? Constant dosing? Any advice appreciated, happy reefing!

I believe your 'pods will be fine. In order for the UV sterilizer to affect them, they have to pass through it. They mostly populate the rock work, and are not typically free floating where they'll get zapped by the UV.

@Fish Fan I hope so. I was just worried about the pods in the chaeto, I know that's supposed to be a spot they like to accumulate as well and my 'huge flows right into the UV. Being a nano i don't have alot of rockwork for them to establish themselves. I had just seen a massive copepod population and then I had a nutrient spike that I believe killed all the microfauna because I haven't seen pods on the glass since. Hopefully they come back soon!

I hope so too lol! I have a 9 watt UV on a 25 gallon tank I just started up so we'll see :)
